About this Project

The Client had previously completed a 30-year span of individual leases to cottagers for their use of 73 lots. With the agreement completed and the cottages abandoned, the Client proceeded to restore the lands to their original condition. Nexxgen was retained to complete the required asbestos abatement and demolition of all 73 cottages. Once completed, Nexxgen removed any remaining debris and restored the disturbed areas with grass and landscaping.

Remediation Process

Asbestos abatement was completed through all the cottages. Sediment control measures were implemented to protect the waterfront from any deleterious runoff from the work areas. Nexxgen hired local labour from the First Nation’s community to assist with the demolition work. Nexxgen partnered with a local First Nation’s contractor for the removal of boat houses, septic beds, and paved laneways.

Any landscaping requiring removal were removed and replaced with similar for community enjoyment. Nexxgen demolished all 73 cottages and disposed of the debris off site to licensed waste/recycling facilities. All concrete was crushed on site and given back for community use. The affected areas were then cleared of any construction debris so the areas could be restored to satisfy the Client’s needs.

The Outcome

The structures on the 73 properties were all successfully demolished, and properties restored with limited environmental influence, positive results for the community and over-all Client satisfaction.
